Your team is using AI. But how is it affecting team dynamics?

A 5-month Harvard Business Review study found that when teams adopt AI tools, engagement actually drops at first. Teams get quieter. People retreat into solo work. AI starts dominating the conversation and the humans stop talking to each other.

The fix isn't banning AI. The fix is building structured team processes BEFORE you layer the technology on top.

Three practices that reversed the effect:

1. Engage with AI as a team, not as individuals
2. Use AI in shifting roles, not just as the "expert"
3. Maintain collective ownership of what AI produces

Teams that did this saw engagement rise 30%. Two-thirds reported better collaboration.

AI won't fix your team. But it will expose what's already broken.

Most managers were promoted because they were really good at their job. Then someone handed them a team and said "good luck."

The majority of managers receive zero formal leadership training before or within their first year in the role. Zero.

Think about that. We take someone who was excellent at their individual contributor work and we make them responsible for other humans' performance, engagement, and development. Without giving them a system to do it.

It's like promoting your best server to restaurant manager and expecting them to just know how to handle inventory, staff scheduling, and customer complaints because they were great at taking orders.
