“How do I know when it's time to get some help?”

There usually isn't one big moment.

It's more often a bunch of small things: meals getting skipped, laundry piling up, a shower feeling less safe, family members doing more and more, or someone spending too much time alone.

You don't have to wait until there's a crisis to ask questions.

We put answers to some of the questions we hear most often in one place:

Find answers to common home care FAQ Nebraska families and caregivers ask about services, eligibility, employment, scheduling and getting started with Safe At Home.

Pull up a chair. We’ve got something new to share.

We’ve added a new space to the Safe at Home website called At the table.

The name has a little history behind it. Safe at Home began with a conversation around a dinner table, and it seemed only fitting to keep the conversation going.

This is where we’ll talk about in-home care, family caregiving, resources, our communities and some of the questions that come up when someone you love needs a little extra help.

We’re starting with something pretty important to us: what it really means when we say Safe at Home is local.

Pull up a chair and take a look:

Being local means knowing the communities we serve. See what local in-home care means to Safe at Home and the Nebraska families we support.

We have officially entered the Brrrrrrrrr! months! 🍂🥶

September is here, the mornings are getting cooler and another Safe at Home newsletter is ready to go!

This month, we’re celebrating our Caregivers of the Month, recognizing some pretty impressive attendance milestones and welcoming new faces to the Safe at Home team.

Grab a cup of coffee, find a cozy spot and take a few minutes to see what’s happening around Safe at Home. 💙

September always feels like a reset. School is back, summer schedules settle down and routines start looking normal again.

It's also a good time to check in with an older parent or loved one about how things are really going at home.

Not a big sit-down conversation. Just ask.

What's getting harder?
What do you wish you had help with?
What would make the week easier?

Sometimes that's where the most useful conversation starts.

A long weekend has a way of bringing families together, which also means you may notice things you don't catch during a quick phone call.

Is the fridge a little emptier than usual? Is the house harder to keep up with? Is Mom moving more carefully? Does Dad seem a little more tired?

None of those things automatically mean there's a problem. They're just worth noticing.

Enjoy the weekend. Eat something good, stay awhile and pay attention to the little things. 😊

Sometimes people hear “in-home care” and picture someone needing help with everything.

Most of the time, it isn't that simple.

Maybe Mom is doing fine with most things but showering has become a little scary. Maybe Dad could use help with meals and laundry. Maybe the house is getting harder to keep up with. Or maybe someone just needs another person around for a few hours.

Care can be a little help or a lot of help. It should fit the person, not the other way around.

Tomorrow is National Senior Citizens Day. We do not need a special day to know older adults contribute to our families and communities, but it is a good reason to pause and say it out loud.

Their experience, humor, resilience and willingness to keep showing up deserve recognition.

Tag an older adult who has taught you something important.

Changes in the home can offer clues that someone needs support. Unopened mail, expired food, missed appointments or clothing worn repeatedly may be more meaningful than a single forgotten name.

Notice patterns without jumping to conclusions. Then begin with curiosity: “I noticed this has been harder lately. How can I help?”
