How do I or any licensed plumber/gas fitter tell a homeowner you can't put in a p-trap legally or a water heater or anything plumbing related when the homeowner can look at me and ask really?? When then why can I buy it at home depot with installation instructions?? What can I say to that?? It's mind blowing the schooling or the continuing education courses every year I have to go through to be licensed to install these things but the homeowner can walk into home depot buy anything they want and do it themselves? Why should I even have a license that I spent four years plus of additional schooling and classes and courses and worked under a master plumber four six years when anyone can do buy it?? Until they get caught by the city that is.. But it just doesn't make sense why they have these huge plumbing departments at the hardware store when legally they can't even change the toilet in their own home...

It is so very important to call a licensed plumber to do the work in your home especially if you own a multi family!!! The city will make you cut out all sheet rock and flooring if caught which is what is happening to a customer now not to mention the fines this guy is getting hit with along with court it's just not worth it. Your neighbors love to call the city if they see you doing work so be careful the only thing a homeowner can do legally if replace the washers in there own faucet.. that is it anything else plumbing or gas related has to be done by a licensed plumber/gas fitter. Can you imagine finishing all the work in say a three family then having the city come in fine you and then tell you it all has to come out.. it's just not worth it!

Drain Cleaning Tip's
Plumbing systems in every home develop clogs and there is no way to steer clear of this. Without proper knowledge, cleaning a drain in your home can be an aggravating experience. If your drains tend to get clogged, whether it is your sink, floor, or bathroom drain, there are simple steps you can take to rid yourself of these clogs without having to call in your local plumber. Read these tips to keep your drains free of clogs and keep draining water properly.

Tip 1: First try using the typical home remedy, the plunger, with cleaning any clogged drain or toilet. An inexpensive tool, a majority of minor drain clogs can be cleared out with some instant plunger action.

Tip 2: Pour a brine solution (or very strong salt water) down any sink to eliminate odors. It is good for kitchen sinks because it keeps grease from building up in the drains after cleaning dishes from dinner. This is a great little trick for preventing clogged drains from happening in the first place, which can definitely save you a nice bundle of cash.

Tip 3: Go to your local store and purchase a drain cleaner solution for any clogs in your drains that you cannot get out with a plunger. Be sure to read all the information on drain cleaner solution as certain solutions are made for certain drains – some chemical drain cleaners can damage plastic pipes or garbage disposals installed in kitchen sinks. Follow all directions carefully to clean the drain properly. Keep in mind, however, that repeated use of chemical drain cleaner solutions can damage your plumbing over time.

Tip 4: Never underestimate the power of vinegar and baking soda, especially if you want to stay away from pouring chemical drain cleaners down a clogged drain to clean it. Inexpensive and safe for use, a little bit of vinegar and baking soda can keep your drains clear of any clog, and it also gets rid of the pungent odor made by any sink clog. A half cup of baking soda poured into any drain followed by a half cup of vinegar and then some boiling hot water is the perfect natural drain cleaner. The two ingredients react with one another to can get rid of any blockage without doing permanent damage to your pipes.

Licensed Plumbers

Plumbers work with materials and fixtures used in the installation, removal, maintenance, extension and alteration of plumbing systems. A plumbing system includes the water supply and distribution pipes; plumbing fixtures and traps; soil, waste, and vent pipes; and building sanitary and storm drains including the connections with any point of disposal (public or private) within the property line.

Only a master or journeyman plumber examined and licensed by the Board of State Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters, with the proper permits issued by the local plumbing inspector, can perform plumbing work at your home or business.

Any person licensed as a master or journeyman plumber may perform the work of a gas fitter, but a licensed master or journeyman gas fitter may not carry out the work of a plumber.

A master plumber has worked for a minimum of one year as a journeyman, completed 100 hours of advanced plumbing theory, and successfully passed the master plumber examination. A master plumber may work either as an individual, a firm, or a corporation. A master plumber must maintain a regular place of business where the current license is displayed. The master plumber may employ journeymen and apprentices.

A journeyman plumber has worked for three years as an apprentice, completed 300 hours of theory at an institution approved by the Department of Education and the Board of State Examiners and successfully passed the journeyman examination. A journeyman works as an individual in performing plumbing work. State regulations require that a journeyman carry a license and display it upon request.

An apprentice plumber is a person learning the trade who is registered with the Board and works under the direct supervision of a master or journeyman plumber.

Water Heater Maintenance!!! Keep your water heater running great by following these simple step's. By Jade Plumbing & Heating

The investment on an expensive property is always entailed by the question, “How do you maintain it?” Regardless if you’re pertaining to your car, your home, a top-of-the-line gadget or even your plumbing appliance, the bottom line is that you have spent your hard earned money on these things which is why due care is essential. As in the case of a hot water heater, you know — we all know — that it is not a cheap piece of equipment. It’s worth $700 or maybe even more! That said, it is only wise and practical to do everything you can to keep it in good shape. So let us share with you some valuable maintenance tips for your hot water heater!
1. Keep your water heater temperature at no more than 125 degrees Fahrenheit. Doing so will not only prevent your machine from overheating but will also save you a lot of money on your utility bill. Think about it as hitting two birds in one stone.
2. Make sure that its T&P valve is working as it should. You can perform a check by simply lifting the lever half way up then letting it go and allowing it to snap back to position. If you hear some sort of gurgling sound, that means that some water is released into the drain tube which is a sign that it’s functional. Otherwise, the valve must be replaced.
3. Flush your water heater tank at least once a year. As you may know, sediments accumulate at the bottom of the tank. This is normal because you’re supplied hard water which contains minerals. These substances are left in your tank and should be removed to prevent corrosion and enhance your water heater’s functionality.
4. If you notice leaks coming from any part of your water heater, attend to them right away. A wet flooring and leaking parts may lead to accidents which can compromise the safety of your property and your loved ones.
5. Check the tank’s anode rod once in a while. It will require replacement if it’s already worn out to prevent rusting.
6. Insulate the pipes and the heater to make it more efficient. Doing so will reduce its energy consumption and reduce your utility bill.
7. When your water heater stops working, shut down the power supply immediately. You can troubleshoot the cause of the problem but you need to ensure that the machine is not on as you may get electrocuted. Once you’ve done basic DIY troubleshooting or performed basic repair and still nothing changes, call a professional plumber right away! Any and all repair's on a water heater must be done by a licensed plumber!
