Because a Death Midwife knows the ways of death are infinite, and grief comes in many forms.
Prayer for Miscarriage
Mother of Life,
Mother of Death,
There is a spirit who was unable to complete the building of their Earth home, their body temple.
For them, the gates of life and death are just an archway in their dancing ground.
They have danced their way back to you.
Their passage was easy
but mine has been hard.
I nurtured them in my body;
I wanted to hold their living flesh and feel their soft breath and their heartbeat.
I would have fed them from my breasts.
I would have cared for them
and watched their first steps
and listened for their voice.
No other child that may come to me will ever be what they would have been.
Nothing, nobody, will ever replace them.
Whatever healing I may find,
this loss will always be a part of me.
I will never forget
I will feel no guilt for never getting over this loss.
Bless my womb, which has the power to create life and death.
Bless my arms that would have embraced this little body.
Bless my hands
that would have lifted them.
Bless my heart that grieves.

And to you - Dear Mother of Loss,
Ride the flow. Grieve. Grieve and mourn - mourn the loss of all the things connected to this, the hopes ad dreams, the disappointment. Don’t let anyone try to minimize this or take it from you or guilt you into thinking you are overreacting, or that your grief is going on too long. This loss is now part of you, part of the fabric of your being, woven into the very tapestry of who you are. Talk to the little one if you need to. Plant a tree in their honor - (or a house plant!) something you can visit and commune with whenever your heart hurts. Hold a doll, do some self care - mani-pedi, massage, bubble bath…
Love transcends the veil. Bring love down though your heart chakra and allow your grief to flow into the Earth. It is a measure of comfort, not a cure.
