💙 This one hits close to home.
As a mother who has spent the last two years fighting to maintain a relationship with my children through the Family Court system, this is something I never thought I’d see.
Today, Kyra’s Law passed both the New York State Senate and Assembly and is now headed to Governor Hochul’s desk.
For too long, many parents and children have felt unheard when concerns involving domestic violence, coercive control, abuse, and child safety were raised in custody and visitation cases. While no law can undo the tragedies that inspired it, this legislation is a step toward making sure child safety remains at the forefront of Family Court decisions.
I’ve learned firsthand that the system doesn’t always get it right, and that children deserve to have their safety, well-being, and best interests truly considered.
Today is a win for children. A win for survivors. A win for parents who refused to stop advocating.
Thank you to everyone who fought to make this happen.
Child safety should never be an afterthought.
