The Urban Resource Institute (URI) just had their 2022 annual URI Celebration: Rise Up! on October 19, it was an uplifting virtual event filled with inspiring testimony from clients, partners, and staff united with URI to end domestic violence, homelessness, poverty, and trauma.

This year’s celebration highlighted the URI Economic Empowerment Program that transforms lives and gives clients a path to safe, stable futures.

BPC is proud to stand with the URI Foundation to end domestic violence, homelessness, poverty, and trauma.

After four years of fan anticipation, the box office smash “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is finally coming to theaters this November. T’Challa, i.e., Black Panther, played by the late Chadwick Boseman, is the first Black superhero in the Marvel Universe, highlighting African history and culture through a cinematic lens.

In addition to his amazing acting career, Chadwick Boseman was heavily involved in charity – donating to colon cancer patients, St. Jude’s, and the Boys and Girls Club. Boseman lives on through his acting roles—portraying cultural icons like James Brown and Thurgood Marshall—but the impact his charitable giving had on the world will serve as his legacy.

Bridget “Biddy” Mason was a slave and midwife who petitioned the court for her freedom. After being granted her freedom in 1856, She would go on to become a wealthy Los Angeles landowner and philanthropist. As the community grew, her property became prime urban lots. Her property accumulated a fortune of $300,000. She would use some of her property to feed and shelter the poor.
Biddy then founded a traveler’s aid center in an elementary school for Black children. As part of her mission, she would even take time to visit prisoners in the local jail to present them with gifts and aid.

Tyler Perry announced that he will be donating $500,000 to New York’s famed Apollo Theater. The actor and film writer was presented with the Impact Award by actress, Whoopi Goldberg, at the theatre’s annual benefit gala. BPC is a proud supporter of the arts and without spaces like the Apollo many Black artists would have never had the opportunity to showcase their talents.
