Our deepest sympathies to the family of Frederick County Captain Josh Laird and the Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Company.
It is with deep regret that I announce that we have lost one of our own. Frederick County Captain Josh Laird was killed while fighting a fire in Fredrick County Maryland, yesterday evening. Josh began his firefighting activities with our department when he was just a young man that wanted to make a difference. He provided us with many memories, laughter and support as he quickly grew into a great volunteer firefighter. Josh was always willing to help in any way he could and he lived at our fire station for quite a while with several members, including Chief Garling. Josh was a person who put others first and always looked out for everyone he was around. There were many very special bonds that Josh established within our department, over the years. And in everything he did, he was very much the professional and comedian. Josh always said he would be a paid firefighter some day and he was able to achieve his goal and was a veteran of 22 years and a current Captain within his department. We ask that you send prayers and comfort to his entire family as they begin the task of mourning this tragic loss. As firefighters, we run in when everyone else is running out because this is what we do. Josh paid the ultimate sacrifice as he was doing everything he could to help others. This will leave a void that will never be filled but we are truly thankful for the time we had with Josh. Fly high Captain Laird and rest in peace. We will take it from here!
