I’m a heart-led studio owner.
That’s one of my strengths.

It’s also why I’ve had to get better at looking at the NUMBERS. 😂

Because you can be wildly creative, deeply invested in your dancers, obsessed with your studio culture…
…and still make decisions that don’t make financial sense.

You don’t need to become a spreadsheet nerd overnight.

But you DO need to know what’s happening in your studio financially.

That’s why I love what Tami created.

The Dance Studio Profit Dashboard helps you see your budget, retention, attrition, class profitability and tuition numbers in one place.

And if you want help actually making sense of it, there’s a version that includes a private 1-hour coaching session with Tami.

Heart + data.

That’s how we build studios that don’t just survive, but give us the freedom to actually enjoy owning them.

👉 Head to our Stan Store to grab Tami’s Profit Dashboard, with or without the coaching session.

Sometimes the biggest warning sign isn’t the kid causing the drama.

It’s the kid who’s gone quiet.

That’s the part I want studio owners watching for.

Because by the time someone says, “We’re leaving,” the culture problem has usually been there for a while.

If you’re seeing this in your studio and you’re not sure what to do next, this is exactly what we can work through together in a 1:1.

I know this one is going to have opinions. 😂

And honestly, I want them.

What are you paying your student teachers and classroom assistants?

Minimum wage? Above minimum wage? Nothing?

And if you pay them, do you see the training as a separate investment or part of what they’re being compensated for?

I think this is one of those studio decisions where there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer.

But I do think it’s worth asking whether we’re expecting teenagers to choose studio work over a job down the street that’s paying more.

Tell me your number and your reasoning.

Follow for more conversations about culture, retention, and building a studio that doesn’t need you in every room.

Your studio doesn’t need to look like mine, but you do need to be clear on your mission, vision and core values. Then you need to figure out how to make YOUR vision profitable.

Let’s jump on a call and start building your dance studio legacy today.

Confession: I have a podcast, and I don't think I've properly told this group about it.

It's called In the Spotlight, and every other week I sit down with a guest, a studio owner, a teacher, a dancer, a parent, an industry pro, and we talk about raising leaders in the performing arts and everything else that comes with running this business. On the off weeks, it's just me talking through what's actually happening at my own studio.

If you're like me and you're a little obsessed with how other DSOs run their businesses behind the scenes, this is that.

Fair warning: I've probably already interviewed someone you know.

You don’t need another cookie-cutter formula for running your dance studio.

You need clarity around YOUR vision, YOUR culture, YOUR people and YOUR version of success.

Because the goal isn’t to own a studio that needs you every second of every day.

The goal is to build something strong enough that your vision can take root, your culture can live on, and eventually... you can step outside of it and actually enjoy the life you’ve worked your ass off to create.

That’s the work I do with DSOs in my 1:1 coaching.

If you’re ready to stop living in the weeds and start working ON your studio, let’s get on a call and make a plan.

If you’re a DSO who is tired of being the person who has to explain, fix, decide, and put out every fire in your studio, this is exactly the kind of work I do with private 1:1 coaching.

Most studio owners treat June like the finish line.
I stopped doing that.

Perpetual enrollment changed the way I thought about retention because I wasn’t spending every summer trying to convince families to come back.

I was assuming they were staying unless they chose otherwise.

There are policies, admin pieces, and some important details you need to get right before you make the switch.

That’s exactly why I wouldn’t recommend just copying what I did and hoping for the best.

If you’re curious whether perpetual enrollment could make sense for your studio, DM me PERPETUAL.

It's almost September.

Here's something worth thinking about before the season gets away from you: how are you making your seniors feel right now?

Because here's what we've noticed, and it's the single most-talked-about thing we've posted about all year. When you go all in on honoring your seniors, something happens to every dancer underneath them.

The 13 and 14 year olds watching that senior tribute, that senior night, that senior spotlight, aren't just happy for the seniors. They're already picturing themselves there.

"I can't wait until that's me."

That one feeling is one of the most underrated retention tools you have. It's the difference between a teen who quits at 15 because dance stopped feeling special, and a teen who sticks it out because she's watched three years of seniors get the send-off she wants for herself.

You don't have to invent this from scratch. We already did the work.

30+ Senior Traditions is a ready-to-use list of ideas your studio can start building into this season right now. Senior nights, spotlight moments, gifts, rituals, ways to make the last year feel like it matters. Pull from it all year, or pick three and start there.

Grab it from our Stan Store before the season fills up your calendar and this becomes another thing you meant to do.

P.S. The studios with the best teen retention aren't doing more. They're just doing this one thing on purpose, every single year.
