At the GNG High School awards night, we were proud to unveil the inaugural Lenora Conger Memorial Scholarship, recognizing two promising students embarking on their nursing journey, and I'm thrilled to share that my mother's legacy will inspire the next generation of nurses to make a meaningful impact. Congratulations to the two recipients Alana and Ella. Best of luck to you both! I hope that your journey will as be as rewarding and impactful for you as it has been for me. Maine’s Families Need Support — And We’re Here to Help! ❤️‍🩹
Did you know that thousands of older adults and Mainers with disabilities are not getting all the home care they’ve been approved for due to staffing shortages? In fact:
🔹 More than 23,500 hours of approved home care go undelivered every week across Maine — that’s care people need but simply can’t get because there aren’t enough caregivers.
🔹 The state needs about 2,300 more direct care workers just to meet current demand.
🔹 Across Maine, 166,000 family caregivers (about 1 in every 8 residents) are providing unpaid care — collectively giving billions of dollars’ worth of support each year.
🔹 And 87% of Maine adults say it’s very important to be able to stay in their own home as they age — yet too many still struggle to get consistent help.
Here in Central & Southern Maine, our aging population means more families are juggling medical needs, household care, and loved ones who want to age in place safely and with dignity.

Caring for a loved one is hard enough—figuring out their long-term care insurance policy shouldn’t add more stress.
A few tips to help you navigate it with confidence:
✔️ Review the policy before care is needed
✔️ Know what triggers benefits (ADLs, cognitive impairment, etc.)
✔️ Understand elimination periods and daily benefit limits
✔️ Keep all documentation organized and accessible
✔️ Don’t hesitate to ask for help—policies can be complicated

At least twice a week and sometimes twice a day, I receive calls for Lenora at work, a poignant reminder of her enduring presence in our lives. For those who may not know, Lenora was not only my mom but also the visionary founder of our agency. Although she passed away in 2023 after courageously battling Alzheimer's disease at the age of 72, her impact on our daily operations remains profound. While some calls may be spam, leaving me feeling frustrated at times, others strike a chord, filling me with warmth and gratitude. Ultimately, these calls remind me that her legacy lives on, and she will always be with me in spirit.

Let's spread warmth and kindness this cold season by checking in on our neighbors, especially those who need our care. Let's ensure they have functioning heat to avoid frozen pipes, and provide them with warm nourishment, cozy blankets, and essential resources in case of an emergency. Having witnessed the resilience of those struggling to stay warm, I urge you to prioritize safety with space heaters by keeping them at a safe distance from anything that is flammable or can catch fire.
