Sunday Morning Training 🚒
Sunday morning, 6AM, while most of the world was still sleeping, the members of the New Haven Volunteer Fire Department were already on the road, heading to Bristol for driver recertification training.
Five trucks. Five completely different challenges.
Each apparatus has its own wheelbase, height, width, transmission, and weight. Learning to safely maneuver one truck doesn’t automatically mean you can safely maneuver the next.
And then there were the cones. 🚧
Those cones represented much more than orange plastic. They represented a fence, a fur baby, or—most importantly—a child. The goal was simple: avoid them.
The training is about more than driving a fire truck. It’s about developing the skills, awareness, judgment, and confidence needed to safely operate these massive pieces of equipment when responding to someone’s worst day.
Early mornings. Long hours. Repetition. Practice.
Because when the call comes in, there’s no time to figure it out.
Train like lives depend on it—because they do. 🚒❤️
Thank you to the members of the New Haven Volunteer Fire Department for putting in the work to keep our community safe.
No cones were harmed in the making of this training. However, several firefighters had their feelings deeply hurt when the cones outperformed them.
