If you only use air cargo when a shipment goes wrong, you're paying an emergency surcharge for a lack of planning.

Air freight is a strategic tool, not just an expensive alternative.

When you understand how carriers calculate chargeable weight, and when you factor in your total landed cost, the math completely changes. The right question isn't "how much does shipping cost?" The right question is: "what does NOT shipping cost me?"

We break down the reality of air cargo in the replay of our latest Freight, Unfiltered webinar: "Stop Guessing- When Air Freight Is the Smart Move."

Our thoughts are with the people of Tohoku.

For U.S. exporters: ports in the affected region are under assessment, photoresist plants in Fukushima are shut for up to 8 weeks (~25% of global advanced capacity), and Kioxia's NAND flash facility in Iwate has paused production. This is landing on top of an already-paused port strike and ongoing tariff uncertainty.

Full breakdown at the link in our bio.

The vessel waits for no one. The truck, unfortunately, also doesn't.
This is where most shipment timelines break down: not on the water, on the road.

Something we're talking about soon. Stay tuned.

Here's something you probably haven't seen covered in English: Japan's port workers enacted a nightly strike on April 13, and yesterday it was put on pause.

The short version: Japan's National Port Workers Union Federation authorized an indefinite nightly cargo handling ban at major ports across the country after spring wage negotiations broke down. The ban covered 18:00 to start of business every day, including weekends, at all major Japanese ports and all job categories.

Yesterday, at the Fifth Central Port Labor Negotiations, the Japan Harbor Transportation Association and both union federations reached a basic agreement. The nightly ban is now postponed. But no actual wage settlement was reached: management committed to promoting conditions that would allow member companies to respond to wage demands, and the next negotiations are scheduled for April 28.

If you're exporting to Japan, the immediate risk has eased, but this story isn't finished. We've been following it from Japanese-language logistics sources since it started. Full article: complete timeline, what the agreement actually covers, and what to watch, is linked below.
