JOSH GUILLORY CAMPAIGN DOES A WHOLE LOT MORE, WITH A WHOLE LOT LESS.
If a candidate's campaign gives any insight into how they will govern, Josh Guillory is the bargain of the year!
Josh, his wife Jamie and a handful of friends worked their guts out over the Summer, on their way to a 1st place finish in the primary election for Mayor-President. They did this in an environment in which they were outspent 4 to 1 by their runoff opponent..
Josh earned 20,140 votes, while raising $83,000 for his campaign. That's an amazingly thrifty $4.12 per vote. And about $30,000 of that total came in the last week!
By contrast, his opponent, Carlee Alm-Labar raised and spent $390,000 to earn only 18,799 votes -- or an eye-popping $20.75 per vote.
This means Carlee spent 5 times more per vote received than Josh. If this demonstrates anything, it strongly suggests that Josh knows how to run a lean, frugal operation with maximum results. Carlee knows how to blow through cash like water, with sub-par results.
Perhaps Jamie and Josh's experience raising children and running a small business here in Lafayette has given them a good sense of what things cost and how to save money. For their opponents and their two six-figure incomes, free spending comes more naturally.
All of this suggests that Josh and his campaign are in a much stronger position to capitalize on their success in the runoff. Their campaign is still lean. There are no unnecessary big ticket expenses and they are spending their money communicating their priorities and values with voters, rather than overpaying consultants and buying trinkets.
In addition, Republicans received 61% of the votes on primary night. Now that Josh is the candidate of the Republican party, he can expect substantially improved fundraising and an avalanche of Republican endorsements. The runoff is his to lose so long as he continues to work hard and sticks to what got him here.
A Mayor-President who can do more with less is exactly what Lafayette Parish needs right now. Josh Guillory is the candidate who has overwhelmingly demonstrated that skill. His opponent, not so much.
