Hello everyone! 💙🤍
For many of you, you know the products, and for some, you know the face behind them. Today, I want to take a moment to share a little more about the heart behind Backyard Basics.
My name is Audrey Roberts, and five years ago, I started Backyard Basics as a small high school project. At the time, I never could have imagined how much this little business would grow or how much it would become a part of who I am.
Over the last five years, Backyard Basics has taught me so much more than how to make and sell soap. It has taught me patience, responsibility, confidence, determination, and what it means to keep going when things don't always go as planned. There have been plenty of late nights, stressful moments, mistakes, and challenges, but there have also been so many accomplishments and memories that I will carry with me forever.
I want to say a HUGE thank you to every person who has liked, commented on, or shared a post. Thank you to everyone who has stopped at my booth, asked questions, smelled the products, made a purchase, or simply encouraged me along the way. You may not realize it, but every kind word, every sale, and every familiar face at an event has meant so much to me. Those little moments are what made the long hours worth it.
Some of my favorite memories have come from standing behind a table full of products that I made with my own hands and getting to tell people the story behind them. I have loved every customer interaction, every FFA competition where I got to represent Backyard Basics, and every opportunity to watch something I started as a teenager turn into something real.
Backyard Basics will always hold a very special place in my heart. It represents a younger version of me who had an idea and decided to take a chance on it. It represents the lessons I've learned, the people I've met, the opportunities I've been given, and the countless hours I've poured into something that I am incredibly proud of. I will always be proud to have my name on it, and that isn't changing. 💙🤍
Many of you know that I will be attending the University of Kentucky this fall. As exciting as this next chapter is, it is also a little bittersweet. For the first time in five years, I won't be home or in the shop as much during the week. Things are going to look a little different, but I want everyone to know that I am NOT stopping my work with Backyard Basics.
I will continue working with my customers and accepting larger orders. I won't be attending as many marketing events during the busy weeks, including the remainder of the farmers' market season this year. If you are interested in placing an order or have any questions about my products, please feel free to send me a private message through this page.
I will still be able to ship products, and I am also willing to possibly deliver depending on location and my schedule.
As for the rest of 2026, I will have a display for my FFA Regional Star in Agribusiness at the Kentucky State Fair. Please stop by and see a little bit of the behind-the-scenes work that has gone into this business over the years. Knowing that I was able to place in the Top 5 in the state because of the support from people like you is something I will never take for granted.
I will also be set up at the Monterey Fair on October 3rd, and I will have NEW products dropping next month in preparation for the fair, so be sure to keep an eye out!
I know this is a long post, but I felt like this chapter deserved more than a quick update. My customers have been such an important part of this journey, and you deserve to know what comes next.
As I step into this new adventure as a college student, I ask for a little patience and understanding as I learn how to balance school, life, and the business that I have spent the last five years building. There will be changes, and there may be times when I can't be as present as I have been in the past, but Backyard Basics is not going anywhere.
Five years ago, I never knew where this little idea would take me. Looking back now, I am incredibly grateful that I took that first step. I am grateful for every customer, every market, every competition, every order, every lesson, and every person who believed in me along the way.
Thank you for allowing me to grow alongside this business. Thank you for supporting a young entrepreneur and for giving me a reason to keep creating.
Here’s to five years of Backyard Basics and to whatever the next chapter brings. 💙🤍
With love and gratitude,
Audrey
