2. Max it out at $7,500 a year, which is $625 a month, in a low-cost index fund like VOO or FXAIX.

3. If your job has a 401k match, take every dollar of it; that's free money you're leaving on the table.

4. Build a three-month emergency fund in a high-yield savings account to earn 4%+ instead of 0.01% at a big bank.

5. $500 a month from age 40 to 65 at 10% average returns will yield over $590,000; most of that growth comes from compounding in the last 10 years.

6. You have 25 years until 65, which is more time than you think; someone starting at 25 with $500/month will have $1.1 million by 65, whereas you'd have $590,000, which isn't 'behind,' but rather life-changing money.

It's not too late to build wealth, but it is too late to keep putting it off.
