A time in our history tells the story of what economic development looked like—and it was completely aligned with innovation.

As a matter of fact, innovation is what happens when things need to change and when needs create the conditions for that change. It is a cyclical process.

Innovation requires creativity, passion, and energy.

I’m breaking it down this way to show the pathway: when economic development in communities is led by the community, it becomes a powerful factor in building the capacity to be self-sufficient and sustainable.

The typical economic development process is outsourced to city, state, regional, and national leaders, yet we continue to remain in an economic crisis. When members of the community go without proper housing, employment, education, health care and safety, we can safely say there is a crisis. These are the basics of most "civil" societies yet the basic remain unattainable for most. We must explore alternatives to the current economic development process.

This is Tamah Yisrael with Takin’ It Back.

What is happening in Louisiana right now is a reminder: when power feels threatened, it redraws the lines.

The push to limit Black political power through redistricting tells us something plain. We cannot wait for the same systems that have oppressed us to hand us liberation.

I am not saying the vote does not matter. I am saying the vote alone will not save us.

Liberation is not something we wait for. It is something we build.

We build it through our own institutions.
Our own cooperative economies.
Our own land strategies.
Our own cultural spaces.
Our own ways of feeding, teaching, protecting, and governing ourselves.

If they can redraw the districts, we must redraw the future.

This evolution reflects a deeper truth I’ve seen in my work with cooperatives, nonprofits, and community-based organizations:

Financial systems alone are not enough.

Organizations need integrated systems, strategic guidance, and financial education to operate sustainably and equitably.

TMH Solutions Hub is designed to meet that need by focusing on:

In the shadow of the Woodward Iron Company, our ancestors built churches, burial funds, and mutual aid systems that carried our community through.

That’s Black history.
That’s cooperative economics.
