A great morning with the Greater New Orleans Executives Association (GNOEA) hearing from Rene Louapre, co-founder of Hogs for the Cause, about how the organization has grown from a backyard pig roast into a major force supporting families battling pediatric brain cancer.

Since 2009, Hogs for the Cause has helped more than 2,200 families, and team fundraising remains a huge part of making that impact possible. As a Hogs team ourselves, we know just how much work, competition, and community spirit goes into fundraising season.

It was also great seeing friends from Fleur de Que and DeSwine Intervention in the room. Strong teams, worthy competition, and an even better cause.

This week, Leaaf Environmental joined environmental professionals from across the region at the EPA Region 6 Brownfields Conference in Dallas, TX.

Jennifer Lindquist, PG, caught up with Tom Cousté of ES2 while connecting with partners and discussing the continued work happening to assess, clean up, and bring brownfield properties back into productive use.

Events like this are a great opportunity to share ideas, strengthen partnerships, and stay connected with the people helping move communities and redevelopment projects forward across Region 6.

Some people collect magnets. Jim collects state high points.

He recently knocked out two more stops on his quest to reach the highest point in every state:

Mississippi: Woodall Mountain, 806 feet
Alabama: Cheaha Mountain, 2,407 feet

Not every adventure has to involve a job site. We’re always glad to see our team getting outside, exploring, and finding new places to climb.

Two more peaks down. Plenty more to go.

Every week, somebody at Leaaf takes over the office kitchen and cooks for the team.

This time, Jim Blazek Jr stepped up.

Naturally, “making lunch” turned into four or five different crêpes, including dessert.

Because if there’s one thing we know about Jim, it’s that he doesn’t really do anything halfway.

We’re not complaining. In fact, we’ve learned that when Jim doubles everybody else’s effort in the kitchen, the rest of us are the ones who benefit.

Good food, good people, and one more reason we enjoy working together.

Jim Blazek Jr is taking project meetings to new heights, literally.

Leaaf is supporting the ongoing weatherization work at the Louisiana State Capitol through environmental construction administration, asbestos and lead perimeter air monitoring, clearance activities, and project reporting.

During this site visit, Jim conducted a progress meeting and reviewed work areas from the scaffolding surrounding the Capitol tower. Our role helps keep environmental requirements coordinated as crews complete exterior siding, window, and roofing work throughout the historic building.

Great view. Serious work. Another day minimizing environmental risk.

Some projects require getting a little deeper into the field.

Jake VanCoevering and Todd Webb, PG recently collected sediment and surface water samples in the Maurepas Swamp lands as part of a Screening Level Ecological Risk Assessment. The data gathered will help evaluate potential risks to the surrounding habitat and support informed environmental decision-making.

From the boat to the backwater, our team is ready to go where the work takes us.

We’re proud to see David Culpepper, PG, included on the 2026–2027 NOGS Board of Directors slate as President-Elect.

With more than 40 years of experience in hydrogeology, remediation, environmental due diligence, and regulatory leadership, David brings a tremendous depth of knowledge to the profession. He currently serves as a Senior Geoscience Advisor with Leaaf Environmental and continues to support the geoscience community through NOGS, ASBOG, and other professional organizations.

Another day, another underground storage tank handled the right way.

Leaaf recently completed a UST closure by removal for Jefferson Parish in Marrero, LA. The work included removal of the tank, proper closure activities, and concrete replacement to get the area restored and ready for use.

It’s not always clean work, but it’s important work — and our field team knows how to keep projects moving safely and efficiently.
