Contact us to get an estimate for your deck! It’s summer in New Orleans and the heat can make it uncomfortable to be outside, but you can make it more enjoyable by adding a deck to your home. A deck is an easy way to expand your outdoor living space and get more use out of your back yard. A shady spot under a tree is ideal, but if you don’t have any trees there are many options for shade, from an inexpensive shade sail, cantilevered umbrellas, to a more expensive awning attached to the main home. Decorate it in the same style as your home or go for something totally different.

There are 2 main materials used to make a deck: pressure treated lumber and composite wood, and as with anything there are pros and cons.

Pressure treated lumber - chemicals are applied to lumber to resist termites and fungus
Pros: Cost around $20 per square foot
Easily available
Choose the color you want

Cons: Must be repainted/stained every few years
Prone to termite damage
Splinters

Composite wood decking – made of wood fibers enclosed in plastic
Pros: Long lasting, low maintenance. Maintenance involves hosing it off.
Immune to termite damage
No splinters

Cons: More expensive than regular lumber, around $35-$40 per square foot
Cheaper versions may not look like real lumber

We renovated a large room, dividing it into more useful spaces including a new bathroom, closet and bedroom. This is in the St. Elizabeth building, formerly an orphanage and Anne Rice's home. Very cool spaces.

This client had a good size bathroom which was hindered by a giant wall behind the tub. We removed the wall, added a shower and tub and refinished the original windows
