Now that the Essence Film Festival is over, I’ve had some time to sit down and reflect on our journey to get there ☺️. I submitted “on a whim”. I’m always looking for opportunities to highlight my clients’ work because I believe in its potential to impact women’s lives.

However, there was a logic behind it 🤓 Here is why I thought we might be a great fit:

Audience Fit: I knew the Essence Festival celebrates Black women, their stories, and their contributions to culture and society. It aligned perfectly with Unspeakable Leadership’s mission to explore the world of Black women and Women of Color in leadership roles. 💪🏽✨

Timing: Launching at the beginning of the year, we tapped into the current discussions on women in higher education, especially amidst the setbacks faced by women leaders in universities across North America. 🌎

Great Project: We invested time in designing a podcast that resonates. From the sound to the listener’s journey, we crafted an experience to inspire and empower. 💡💃🏿

A Little Luck: With preparation, opportunity, and a sprinkle of luck, the universe aligned perfectly, and the selection committee loved what we offered! 🍀

I believe in the power of social media but we have many more effective options when it comes to marketing podcasts 😆. Here are three different methods for you to try:

1️⃣ **Newsletters**: Research shows that emails are still the #1 way to reach your audience. With all the information we have in front of us, if people are choosing to keep you in their inbox, then your podcast is providing them with value 🌟 Keep them engaged by sharing exclusive content, episode previews, and behind-the-scenes insights.

2️⃣ **Guest Appearances**: The beauty of podcasting is in the community that can be built around the medium. Expand your reach by guesting on other podcasts in your niche. Tap into their audience and attract new listeners who share your interests. 👯‍♀️

3️⃣ **Cross-Promotion**: Podcast listeners listen to multiple podcasts at a time. What a better way to reach them than by partnering with other fellow podcasters 🥰. You can do mutual shoutout or even episode swaps if it fits within your programming. Help each other grow by introducing your audiences to new, exciting content. 🤝🏾

One of my favorite things to do is sound design 🥰. In this case, I was trying to find the right song for the right moment, the one that conveys the feeling you’re looking for!

It can be a little tedious and at times overwhelming, going through songs one by one 😅.But nothing beats the feeling when you finally get it right.🎉🎉🎉

Also if you edit your own podcast and don’t use @ Descript_app yet, check them out. I love their sound library, amongst many other things. 💃🏿

Earlier this week I was preparing a podcast review. I’ve been listening to it on YouTube because that’s how a friend shared it in his stories. I like to share the links to Spotify and Apple Podcasts so as I researched it, I realized it wasn’t on those platforms. 🤔

This got me thinking about the evolving definition of podcasts: Are they strictly audio? Must they have a video version? 😅

Context is also important. This is an African podcast and YouTube dominates on the continent. It was a crucial reminder to understand and reach your audience where they are.🌍

Ultimately, we create podcasts to share our message with the world, ensuring our people can find and hear it. 💫
