Sudden Impact Louisiana

Sudden Impact Louisiana Sudden Impact provides testimony to the ramifications of driving while impaired from a medical, law enforcement, and victim perspective.

The Sudden Impact Program developed by UMC, is designed to prevent fatalities and injuries from driving impaired, texting while driving and lack of seat belt usage. The 7 hour program for high school sophomores, located at numerous hospitals across Southeastern Louisiana, places the teens in an unfamiliar environment while providing education on laws, decisions, communication and impairment.

Today, the Sudden Impact Program had the tremendous honor of being featured as a presentation at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Driving Impaired Conference in California.

It is truly an honor to represent this impactful program on a national level and share its purpose and successes with professionals from across the country.

A special thank you to Madison Caillouet, Sudden Impact Coordinator, and Trooper Casey Wallace of Louisiana State Police for representing the program with such professionalism and pride. Your dedication to the mission and commitment to making a difference are truly commendable.

We are proud to bring Louisiana’s Sudden Impact Program to a national audience and continue inspiring others in the fight against impaired driving. đŸ‡ºđŸ‡¸đŸ’™ University Medical Center New Orleans Louisiana State Police Louisiana Highway Safety Commission

Sudden Impact has officially kicked off the 2026–2027 school year!

Yesterday, Troopers from Troops C and L, along with medical professionals from St. Tammany Health System and Terrebonne General Health System, welcomed students from South Terrebonne High School and Saint Paul’s High School to the first Sudden Impact Louisiana programs of the new school year.

As novice drivers, these students are starting the school year equipped with life-saving information. Sudden Impact, designed for 10th through 12th graders across Louisiana, educates students on the dangers of impaired and distracted driving, speeding, lack of seat belt use, and excessive alcohol consumption while helping establish safe and responsible behaviors behind the wheel.

We encourage every student to make responsible choices while driving and to be a positive influence on others as we work together to keep Louisiana’s roads safe.

On Monday, we honored the incredible trauma survivors and family members who courageously share their stories with teens throughout the school year. Their strength and willingness to turn tragedy into hope are the heart of the Sudden Impact Program and a powerful reminder of the reasons behind our efforts.
