https://www.givenola.org/operationpathways

Today is GiveNOLA Day across our region.

Operation Pathways NOLA work in the New Orleans East area exemplifies the spirit of GiveNOLA Day. We provide programs and services through four different pathways: Academic Achievement, Financial Stability, Healthier Living, and Aging in Place. Academic Achievement promotes ongoing education and training for children and adults leading to increased employment and scholastic opportunities.

*** GiveNOLA Day funds will support Operation Pathways Youth Summer Enrichment program. This program provides a FREE summer camp for residents. Can we count on you to be a part of our "Youth Summer Sponsor" mission this year? Donations can be made at: https://www.givenola.org/operationpathways

My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 39. I watched her go through multiple chemotherapy treatments, try different medications, have a mastectomy, sat through countless doctors appointments, and much more. After 6 years of fighting, she passed away at the age of 45 in 2015.

One year after my mom passed away, I found a lump in my own breast. Prolonged breastfeeding reduces the risk of breast cancer, which is why I personally chose to breastfeed my daughter.

My mom is the strongest and smartest woman I’ve ever known. Every October, we wear pink in honor and memory of her 🤎

I originally saved this picture as a joke to send to my friends shortly after giving birth. I never actually thought we’d make it to this day. Yet, here we are! Happy 892nd day breastfeeding to my daughter & I 🎉🤎. I think we will do something to celebrate!

It’s Black Breastfeeding Week and this year’s theme is: The Big Pause: Collective Rest for Collective Power. I’m in love with this theme because REST is something we don’t get enough of! I’m super excited for all the events that are scheduled this week 🤎

Tomorrow starts Black Breastfeeding Week and I’m so excited! It’s such a celebratory time for Black Parents and Lactation Professionals!

But, before we get started (tomorrow), I just wanted to make one thing clear.

EVERY YEAR, we get the question “why do we have to have a week for Black Breastfeeding?! It shouldn’t be that way! This is segregation/racism.”

Yeah, we not doing that this year. Google is free. If you’re interested in learning more about Black Breastfeeding Week, from the origins, to the why, to the how you can support, I encourage you to check out and to use Al Gore’s Innanets to do a bit of research before you request ANYONE else to do that emotional labor for you.

It’s World Breastfeeding Week and this year’s theme is Protect Breastfeeding which I absolutely love! It’s so important for parents to feel protected and empowered during their breastfeeding + chest feeding journeys.

This hold also works well for parents who have very large breasts, very small infants, flat or inverted ni***es, a strong let-down reflex, or more than one infant. Infants held like a football are well supported and easily positioned.
