It’s a fun Friday over here! We’re in the New Orleans Notarial Archives, tracing the ownership of a lovely single shotgun house in the Bywater. Often, the earliest residents of homes in this neighborhood were German immigrants. Let’s see if this overall pattern holds true for this property! 🤓

As we all know, New Orleans has a history as rich and long as the great Mississippi River.  If you've ever wondered how that history connects with your daily life - who has walked your daily route perhaps, or who has lived in your house -  then you have come to the right place.  Living History...

This month, we are conducting in-depth research into the history of Parasol's Bar in the Irish Channel. Yesterday we discovered this 1955 photo of St. Patrick's Day paraders gathered on the corner of Washington Avenue and St. Thomas Street. Most of these men were well-known figures in the neighborhood in general and at Parasol's in particular for many years.

We discovered that this Victorian-style home on Franklin Avenue was designed by noted New Orleans architect Edward F. Sporl and constructed in 1914. Further research revealed that the original owners were William Clark, native of Mazatlan, Mexico, and his wife Ivie. William worked for the Vaccarro Brothers Fruit company, which pioneered the modern U.S. banana import industry in the early 20th century. The Clarks lived in the home with their three young children Lola, Mildred, and Vincent.
Unlock the mystery of your home's history!
