Rolling Out sat down with Kelechi Ubozoh, co-author of The Psychiatric Green Book, to talk about why the guide exists.

It started with a phone call. Families kept reaching out to BEAM saying they didn't know where their institutionalized loved ones were, or how to advocate for them. What began as an idea for a few Instagram reels grew into a full guide, built with disability rights advocates and policy experts, including Dr. Rupi Legha.

Kelechi's advice for families starts before crisis ever hits: create a psychiatric advance directive, set up a release of information, and know your rights going in.
