Before launching a fundraising campaign, nonprofits often focus on goals, timelines, and donor outreach plans.
Those things are important—but here's a question that should come first:
Can your staff explain the campaign in one sentence?
If the people closest to the work can't clearly and consistently explain what the campaign is about, donors may have a hard time understanding it too.
A clear message helps everyone—from staff and board members to volunteers and supporters—share the same story and communicate the same purpose.
Before your next campaign launch, try this simple exercise:
Ask a few team members to explain the campaign in one sentence.
Do their answers sound the same?
If not, it may be time to simplify and refine the message before moving forward.
The most successful campaigns aren't always the biggest.
They're often the ones with the clearest story.
