We are excited to welcome the North American T28 to our hangar! This bird will be getting fitted with our engine monitoring system and new AI analytic software! There is nothing more important than engine foresight when flying.

Many Allison cylinder heads are moving through the shop at Strix Aero. We’re refurbishing each head, removing the old pitted valve seats, and replacing with new ones to bring everything back into spec. It’s detailed work, but it matters. A properly fitted valve and seat help each cylinder seal and perform the way it should when this engine returns to service. Next step, cutting the profiles to fit the valves.

Our second Yak engine overhaul has begun! This one has had a long healthy life and will be torn down and checked throughout, then get outfitted with all of our new components and improved methods.

These Allison V-1710 crankshafts are a testament to the strength and durability of American engineering. During WWII, Cadillac Motor Car Division of General Motors was among the manufacturers producing Allison V-1710 engines under license, helping meet the enormous demand for reliable power in America’s warbirds.

Designed to withstand the demands of high-performance combat aviation, these crankshafts were built with serious strength and plenty of life left in them. Even after decades, many can be carefully inspected, measured, and reconditioned to return to service. A remarkable reminder of just how overbuilt these engines were.

She’s awake!

The Allison 1710 Mule comes to life on the dyno with the unrestricted short stacks ready to make some noise. No filters. No music. Just 1,710 cubic inches of American V-12 muscle.

After putting the Yak engine through its final round of testing, we’re happy to call this one complete. Everything checked out, and the engine is officially finished, crated up, and headed back to the customer!

Final testing is in the books for the -99 Yak Allison, and the results are looking damn good!

Our latest configuration showed a considerable improvement in horsepower, torque, and overall engine stability. After dialing everything in, the engine is running stronger, smoother, and more consistently than before.

The cool August mornings are always the best time for engine runs! Just a couple more hours of data logging and break in on the Yak engine and she will be on her way home!
