Primarily herbivores, gopher tortoises eat grasses, mushrooms, saw palmetto berries, and prickly pear cactus pads, fruits and flowers, as well as blackberries, blueberries, gopher apples and other low-growing fruits. Biological Consulting Services has a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Authorized Gopher Tortoise Agent on staff authorized to conduct gopher tortoise burrow surveys and to capture and relocate gopher tortoises.
