Independent vs captive vs hybrid insurance agents and agencies
Independent agents will not give you the best deal because they have certain quotas they have to meet for the companies they do business with. They will also move you from company to company so that they will constantly get new sales commission on your policy(ies). Bottom line, these people do not act in your best interest.
Captive agents will give you the best rate for the 1 company he/she writes for. They get commission on your new policy/ies and at renewal.
Hybrid agents are contracted with 1 group of companies, typically owned by the same big company. These agent get paid commission on the new policy and at renewal. These agents also have the ability to shop the companies that they are contracted with for a better rate.
So who would you rather go with?
I am a hybrid agent. I am not bound to writing for only 1 company, but for any one that will give a better rate under the Farmers umbrella.
Health insurance, I am independent, but under a much larger company so that I can write for any company. This means that I can shop for you for the best health insurance rate.

Are you with an Insurance company that can weather the storm? Nationwide and Travelers have put a stop on all new new business nationally. State Farm has pulled out of California and has stopped paying or is under paying (as reported by clients switching) their claims for wind and hail. Allstate is also under valuing claims (customer’s reporting). Progressive will have you name your price and will then provide you with the least amount of coverage(observation and customer report). So who do you trust to keep you protected from financial harm when you have an accident?
