Merritt Manufacturing, Inc. was established in 2007, with its first product being The Roosevelt. Until then, Shayne had worked as a mechanical engineer in the nuclear, automotive and child restraint industries. He worked for Chem Nuclear, Koyo Bearing, and Britax Child Safety. In 2003, he left Britax to become the director of the Auto Safety Program, at Riley Hospital for Children. Barbara was a registered nurse in the St. Francis OR at the time.
