My clients and friends know that I’ve been working on something a little bit outside of building Keep it Human for the past few years.
💙🖤 Last week in Baltimore, I walked in the commencement ceremony for my M.A. in Nonfiction Writing from Johns Hopkins University Advanced Academic Programs.
It is 30 years almost to the DAY from when I walked at Baltimore’s Homewood campus in the ceremony for my B.A. in Humanistic Studies at The Johns Hopkins University (concentrations in writing and music history). Once a Blue Jay, always a Blue Jay.
I did this program because I wanted to return to my creative roots. I have always been a writer, but after many years in digital media, I became a GM/Product leader and missed the opportunities to write.
My specialty is personal essay, so all of the writing I did in this program was quite personal and transformative and I further developed my writing voice. I love to play with form and structure, and got to do so much of that in this program.
I am grateful to my family and friends, especially my daughter Ella, for giving me grace and loving support while I pursued this dream.
I am proud to be a 2x (or would we call it a boomerang?) Blue Jay. 💙🖤
P.S. My thesis was an essay collection with a wacky historical fiction podcast where I interview the ghost of a 1930s woman executive from Long Island — if you’re an agent, 📱call me!
