We squeezed everything we could outta this one. 🍋
Sweat. Tomatoes. Loud music. Long days. Good food. Bad news. Dancing anyway 💃🏿🕺🏽🧑🏾‍🩰 when it feel like September got one foot in fall and summer is still outside with no plans to leave. 🙏🏾
So here’s what was left in the cup.

Salsa next to amapiano. R&B next to hip-hop. Mali next to Macklemore. A lil nostalgia we refuse to explain. Songs for loving ourselves, loving each other, and giving a damn about somebody besides ourselves.

Some sweet. Some sticky. Some s**t to move to.
Drips of Summer.
Get it before it dries up. 💦😋

🍂 Day and night meet as equals. The season turns. Harvest and release.

This is the invitation:
🍁 Celebrate what you’ve grown.
🌾 Lay down what you can’t carry forward.
🍄 Nestle into courage, because balance isn’t passive 🚫 it’s resistance ✊🏿 against a system that wants us to ignore the cycles of nature.

In times of suppression and rising shadows, we remember: justice isn’t only struggle, it’s also balance, breath, and renewal. We fight by refusing to burn out 🕯️We resist by making space for joy and care. We remember we are not machines but precious earthly altars.

🌻 What are you carrying into this season? What are you laying down?

Background has autumn trees with orange and yellow foliage, slightly out of focus. The sky has warm sunset colors. The lighting is warm and golden. The words Autumn Equinox and “What are you carrying into this season? What are you laying down?” Are written across the image.

On this Monday, we sending love to the folks we’re moving beside. 💫
This week, we supported folks working inside spaces of power — navigating the abrupt shift between 2020’s commitments to justice and today’s rollbacks on equity and liberation. Their courage in holding space for communities and one another inspires us.

As Audre Lorde reminds us: “Your silence will not protect you.” These folks are choosing courage over silence, even in environments where speaking up can feel impossible.

Cheers to those who defend communities at the margins and fight ignorance with clarity, conviction and vision.

If your group is ready to align practice with principle ~ reach out, let’s build. 🌱🖤

Rest is not a luxury — it’s a right.

As Tricia Hersey reminds us in we have to reclaim our dream space.

Our ancestors were denied rest, their labor stolen.

To lay down, to breathe deep, to nap, to dream 💫 is to resist the lie that we are machines. 🛑🤖

At Rested Root, we believe in a politic of rest. That’s why our Patreon is filled with offerings to nourish your body and spirit: playlists, meditations, and sleep stories created to help you slow down and reclaim what’s yours!

You deserve to rest. You deserve to dream. 🌙✨

That audacious, unapologetic face we make when we drop a whole March playlist in April… 😎
Not sorry. Never extinguished.
We aint sleep … we been marinating.
Rested, rooted and certainly unstoppable.
We not burning out … we slow burning 🕯️
