During Volunteer Week, I was reminded of where it all started…

6️⃣ months ago, I started volunteering at a hospital and being back in this environment brought back so many memories.

In the late ‘90s, I worked as an Emergency Room Registrar, thinking I’d be a nurse.👩🏾‍⚕️

I finished all the prerequisites, applied to nursing school — only then to realize, the clinical side wasn’t for me and that the business side of healthcare would become my true calling. ☺️

Throwback to 1999, my first year working in healthcare as an Emergency Room Registrar. 🏥👩🏾‍💻

This was a great entry level position to get exposure to the revenue cycle and learn medical terminology.

Look at me! I was so young and eager to learn. And to this day, my drive to learn and grow hasn’t changed. 📚

In 2006, I took a leap of faith and taught myself medical billing. With determination and a dream, I built a skillset that has supported me and my family ever since. 🙌🏾
