Employers, are you are driving top talent away with outdated hiring tactics? Please do not make job offers this way:

A client of ours was approached by HR after finishing a cycle of interviews.

They asked him how much he wanted to make. They said they’re new to the area and don’t know the market, but they want to make him an exciting offer.

Knowing that was a garbage argument, our client said: if you’d like to make me an offer, please make me an offer.

So they sent over a compensation package. It was very low.

Naturally, we countered.

HR came back with: “Oh, that wasn’t our formal offer! We just wanted to show you your salary breakdown so you know where we stand.”

What is the point of that? What does that accomplish, other than turning a candidate off?

It’s this kind of nonsense from HR that drives good talent far, far away.

What school you attended, your work experience, your title--none of these will limit how far you can go.

What will get in your way are the limitations you set up for yourself.

You CAN go after the results you believe you deserve.

Never let people tell you otherwise.

And if they push back on you—prove them wrong!

1) Craft your power positioning.

In other words, learn how to tell your story.

Demonstrate that you are the expert who can solve the hiring manager's problem.

2) Learn a system to effectively network with people.

The key here is to build genuine connections with people you don't already know.

This is how you will get more referrals, and access the hidden job market.

If you've hit a wall in your career, there is hope!

Start with the foundations: Reconnect with your unique value prop, and learn how to make effective connections with people in target companies in your industry.

Stop letting fear dictate your career choices—here’s the strategy to land the job you truly deserve!

1. Be solid in your value and get really good at creating connections with people. If you're worried about where you'll find your next job, I'll tell you right now: it will happen through connections, not through online applications.

2. Don't take a lowball offer because it's the only thing on the table. This one is hard, but don't undercut your career just because you're concerned nothing else will come along.

3. Don't take interviews for jobs below your level or salary expectations. In other words, don't start by lowballing yourself.

If you are solid about your value, hiring managers will see it, too.

If you invest the time in genuine connections, opportunities will open up for you.

And you'll find the role—and the salary—you actually want.

Strategy is the best cure for scarcity!!
