Because change is never easy. Change takes time.
Good change is rarely supported & it's always fought.
As they say in Jersey, irregardless,
we must support, allow, and make change.

Dinner at chez harvé tonight is pimped up A-SHA ramen.
With thanks to for the noodles, I steamed broccoli with half a lemon, garlic, & sea salt, added skinless chicken breast, after tossing the starch with the protein, and placing the broccoli where it made aesthetic sense, I added Chengdu Crunch.

I rarely speak in superlatives. And one of the most remarkable R&B soul performing artists, philanthropist, storyteller I have ever heard sing in person, and on recording, is

Whether he is Love King solo'ing, which he did with a spectacular band last night at (where your girl saw both shows), being a philanthropist and activist by founding or performing with his brother in skills, spirit, and music artistry as (whose 25th birthday is next year), this is a musician I have appreciated and admired for years.

This is Obed Calvaire, a Haitian-American genre-blending drummer, who I first was privileged to hear at where he is the JALC Orchestra's drummer.
Flash forward to today, rather to last night at where his premier album "150 Million Gold Francs" (available on ) was release-celebrated.
Besides Mr. Calvaire on drums, the audience (more people than I have ever seen at NUBLU) was blessed to watch were on alto saxophone, on electric bass, on keys & piano, on guitar, on keyboards, & special guest on vocals.
This album (about which you can read via my profile's Linktree) is revolutionary, pairing Haitian history, culture, and language with the personal, political, and tactical. It's heartfelt, modern in its sounds, and timeless in its affect.
Shouts to Obed, and all his brothers onstage last night and on this record.

Correction: this is me at 50. Today.
Makeupless (other than brow pencil), unedited, unfiltered, and grateful AF after a facial by Sagi and a massage by Jira at in Manhattan.
Because, today is my birthday.
And not to sound like I'm on an awards show, and today would not be possible without a whole lotta people:
Family, friends, FFLFR, cohorts, colleagues, medical staff, stylists, artists, musicians, inspirers, challengers, reminders, supporters, gaslighters, liars, faux'ers, and back to friends, family, FFLFR, and love.
Because, in the words of Stevie Wonder in "As" (which WILL be the first song danced to at my wedding, whenever that is going to happen), "true love asks for nothing, her acceptance is the way we pay."
So, for the acceptance shown to me by so many, thank you.

On the menu tonight Chez Harvé is caponata with ground beef and malfaldine (because pasta needs the grooves, the hooks, the bends like a good song has).

While caponana senza carne has been a go to for me since I don't know when (shouts to legit vegetable lasagna), I wanted and needed the protein.

Thus, with thanks to for the caponata recipe (which I tweak to a degree), for the pasta (whassup ), & supper is on, accompanied by on after & complete the album on my turntable (which does not include the accompanying song, and you can play "You Are My Heaven" if you already know).

Pairing old and new. It's a good look.
A really good look is keeping something "old"
when it resonates and/or can be
tweaked, elevated, and more loved.
The port-cranberry whatchamahoo is that.
Always requested, usually liked.
This year I zested more orange peel, juiced Cara Cara oranges, and didn't cry into it.
Because, tears are salt water.
The recipe, if memory serves, is in the last made cookbook.
And I can share it with you.
