GRC is launching a fundraising event this year with and the goal is to raise $7.5k this year. All funds will go towards to investing in summer internships for our consultants, providing funds for branches for materials/when needed, hosting case competitions, hosting industry conferences, etc. Please help us spread the word and/or donate this upcoming Tuesday! 📌[Project Spotlight]

“Young Guru Academy (YGA) is a Turkish NGO dedicated to cultivating double-winged (conscientious and competent) youth to build a more hopeful future. Selected young adults participate in the YGA Leadership Programme where they receive training and work as volunteers to strengthen YGA’s technology-based social innovations and ventures. Having identified a deficit in STEM education in Turkey, YGA launched Science Movement (SM) in 2018, which consists of (i) sending science/robotic kits to identified schools; (ii) onboarding teachers onto a training platform; and (iii) identifying eligible students in participating schools for the YGA Leadership Programme. Notably, SM piloted an expansion in Kenya in mid-2020 and while metrics on efficacy in Kenya are still being collated, SM is considering deepening activities in Kenya and expanding laterally to Ghana, Rwanda, and South Africa. SM engaged GRC Sciences Po with regards to three different projects pertaining to their expansion in Africa, one of which is how an UK-registered charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) can incorporate best practices in improving recurring donations to fund this expansion. This project’s approach first segmented donors into individual, institutional, and corporate donors; followed by identifying key features that makes them favourable to seek funding from, priorities and sectors of interest, relevant projects and peer recipients in target region, as well as funding process for each group of identified donors. Essentially, the project aimed to make incoming revenues for YGA and SM more significant, stable, and predictable. Overall, YGA praised the “excellent work” that our teams demonstrated and believed that we have “added great value to [their] project”. Since the projects’ conclusion, YGA is in the midst of studying and implementing our deliverables with other stakeholders, while their UK-registered CIO has begun operations which would hopefully contribute towards covering part of their operating costs with our recommendations.”

Introducing one of our Co-Presidents! Ohad Klopman came to GRC with no prior consulting experience. As such, he would like to share with the club members that he understands that the work everyone's doing is challenging and the learning curve can be steep. He reminds the members however that the skills you pick up in GRC will be directly applicable to every part of your career! “Approaching a problem, conducting research, and synthesizing complex data into a cohesive action plan are valuable talents that can not be learned in school,” he notes. He hopes this reminder would motivate everyone as they approach the final presentation.

Beyond the classroom, Ohad is most passionate about using qualitative methods to solve problems in the economy and in government. As of this moment, he is working as a data analyst for Family Reach, a national nonprofit that helps families with cancer meet their expenses. In his role, leveraging the skills he cultivated at GRC, he collects and analyzes program data and looks for ways to improve the non-profit's services — that is, helping more people overcome the financial burden of cancer.

Meet our Treasurer cm VP of Development! Having founded the GRC Chapter at Columbia two years ago, Devan Gardner appreciates how far the organization has come, especially the tight-knit community that has been cultivated along the way. He claims the opportunity to bring such a positive and impactful experience to others at GRC was what kept him going and grow during his undergraduate years.

To the members of GRC, he would like to say thank you! “Thank you for being empathetic, hardworking, passionate, and ambitious.” As a piece of parting advice (it is his last year at Columbia), Devan calls all members to remember that “you eat what you kill, and so go after everything with 110% commitment and drive.” Rewards await you at the end of the road, and if things get tough, know that there is a community at GRC to support you, he notes.
