Harvest, is coming.
We get this question a lot: So like, do you own vineyards!?
Short answer: No, we contract with many incredible farmers, who own the organic, sustainable, or biodynamic vineyards that we make wine from.
Long answer: While we one day hope to be able to “own” vineyards in Sonoma, we, like many many other winemakers in Sonoma, contract with vineyard owners. What does that mean? Well, from the start, we were very lucky to be able to work with some very well respected farmers. This is partially because where I (David) initially interned, was introduced to vineyard owners who’ve been doin’ this for 50+ years. Since we were so small, we only needed to contract “a row or two” from each vineyard. This opened up a lot of doors as we were only making small lots of each wine. Thankfully, over time, as we grow, we have been able to go back and contract say 3 rows, or 5 rows!
In short…or long: for various reason, as the costs have gone up on everything in the world, wine companies are making less and less wine. Contracts are being ended or broken with the farmers. These grapes are these farmers livelihood. As we start to make more and more wine, we are able to supplement some of their loss. This is how we are able to keep our prices lower for all of our organic, sustainable, or biodynamic wines. It really is a win-win for the grower and the maker.
Truly in short: it’s all because of you, the followers, the supporters, and most importantly, the buyers. If we didn’t have reason to make more wine, we wouldn’t be able to go into our 5th harvest! Woah. Our FIFTH harvest. Thanks all!
