A lot of you asked about the ermines in my earlier post. Here’s a closer look! I don’t have a huge personal collection of taxidermy or preserved animals, but what I do have are pieces that awaken something in me. Like this ermine set. It’s beautiful and grotesque. The mortality of these animals is inescapable, and I question the conditions of their lives and deaths. But the amount of labor put into detailing each creature, right down to the sculpted teeth and jaws, is a lot like the care I try to put into my own work. Most people see things like this and want to look away. But I can’t, because each of these little guys was a life. To look away would be like dealing them a second death, denying their dignity. So I’ll care for them as a complex piece of history and mirror to humanity.
Thanks to my friends at for giving me first dibs on these 🖤
