💡 Avoid plastic cutting boards!
Use a hard wood or bamboo cutting board that doesn’t have any synthetic coatings or glues. Wood is a safe choice because it has natural antibacterial properties, and continuous usage won’t damage the board.

🔧Maintain your cutting board by giving it a good salt scrub once a month: evenly sprinkle coarse salt on the surface then scrub it with half a lemon, squeezing some of the juice out as you scrub. Let this rest for 5 minutes before rinsing the board with hot water. When dry, treat it with a coat of almond or walnut oil.

ℹ LaGuardia Gateway Partners has announced the elimination of single-use plastic straws in the F&B outlets at New York LaGuardia’s Terminal B.

This is a huge win to eliminate unnecessary plastic and hope it extends to the other terminals and maybe JFK soon🙌

ℹ that our world is now only 8.6% circular. Of all the minerals, fossil fuels, metals, and biomass that enter it each year just 8.6% are cycled back.

According to the Circle Economy, the global economy is consuming 100 billion tonnes of materials a year for the first time ever, but the cycling rate of resources has gone into reverse.

Let's continue to fight the good fight ✊

📜In 1997, while returning to southern California after finishing the Los Angeles-to-Hawaii Transpac sailing race, Captain Charles Moore and his crew caught sight of trash floating in the North Pacific Gyre, one of the most remote regions of the ocean. He wrote articles about the extent of this garbage, and the effects on sea life, which attracted significant attention in the media.

💡Whether traveling by plane, train, bus, or car, pack food for the trip. Alternatively, make time to sit down and eat at a restaurant before your flight or road trip, rather than opting for grab-and-go meals or buying food at the airport, train station, or rest stop. You’ll bypass not only the meal packaged in plastic, but also the cutlery wrapped in plastic film.

📜 In 1954, Dow Chemical introduces polystyrene insulation under the brand name “Styrofoam.”

Polystyrene foam went on to be used in lightweight protective packaging, buoys/docks, movie sets, takeout containers, and more.

Could anyone have foreseen how much these early innovative materials would transform our lives?

Most receipts are printed on thermal paper, a process that uses heat instead of ink to print text on paper that is coated with BPA, an industrial chemical used in certain plastics. Skip the receipt, opt for an e-receipt, or take a photo of the register screen for your records. If a hard copy is your only option, wash your hands with soap and water as soon as possible to decrease your skin absorbing BPA and definitely don’t put the receipt in the bag with your groceries to avoid contaminating food items.

Movie tickets, airline tickets, concert tickets, and boarding passes are also typically printed on thermal paper. If you scratch the printed side of a movie ticket with a coin and a dark mark appears, then it’s thermal paper. So go paperless and use a digital ticket. If you need a physical ticket, print it on 100 percent recycled paper. Don’t recycle thermal paper because it will contaminate the rest of the paper with BPA.

📜 Did you know? In 1993 Denmark was the first country to introduce a tax on plastic bags. Today, a bag costs roughly 50 cents, part of which goes into taxes, but the supermarket also makes a small profit. The higher cost of bags has cut the sale of multiple-use bags by more than 40 percent over the past 25 years. On average, a Dane now uses 70 multiple-use carrier bags and just four single-use bags a year, or less than 1.5 plastic bags a week in all. (Compared to the average American who uses nearly one single-use bag a day).

Skip the tissues and keep it clean with organic cotton handkerchiefs just like the ones your great-grandfather used to use. You can repurpose an old T-shirt, pillowcase, or sheet to make them yourself. When on the go, store clean handkerchiefs in a small bag or pouch and have a separate bag for soiled ones. The used handkerchiefs can be cleaned with your whites in a hot wash...👍
