Of the times I have traveled to Australia, this is the first time I was a tourist. I listened to the advice I give my clients and slowed down my trip and didn’t spend all my time flying between destinations. We picked two locations Sydney and the surrounding area, and Kangaroo Island. We travelled during the late winter / early spring months in Australia and found the timing was great for less crowded experiences. We had fantastic weather (never guaranteed in any destination), met some wonderful people, and caught up with friends and family.

Our itinerary:
Qantas flight NYC to SYD via Auckland (this routing was much better for jet lag than connecting though a west coast hub)
- 3 Nights in Sydney City Center (I really like the InterContinental…great location near the opera house and botanic gardens, easy access to ferries and The Rocks. With US flights arriving early, they offer a top floor early arrival lounge with beautiful views and light fare. Also, as the former treasury building it has bit of history, plus an amazing rooftop.)
- 1 night Taronga Wildlife Retreat. Ideal for both adults only and families. Taronga Zoo has stunning views of the city and a a wide range of animals.
- 3 nights New South Wales beach stay with a rental car. We chose Kiama, which had a great local feel, but there are lots of options.
- 5 nights Kangaroo Island. Increadible wildlife and topography. This was a trip highlight mostly due to our guide from Exceptional Kangaroo Island. I definitely recommend Southern Ocean Lodge - it is amongst the nicest luxury lodge world wide.
3 nights Manly - great vibe, coastal walks, excellent markets and shopping, and city beaches.
Back to NYC via Auckland (if I had more time I would add another 10 days in New Zealand!)

The BodyHoliday St. Lucia strikes the right balance in a resort where you can do everything or nothing. The island is gorgeous and St. Lucians are warm and welcoming. I’d come back here in a heartbeat - the majority of the guests here are repeat visitors.
