đŸ‡«đŸ‡· Jarrett Ott a rĂ©cemment fait ses dĂ©buts au Grand ThĂ©Ăątre de GenĂšve avec les rĂŽles d’ÉnĂ©e et du Marin dans une version revisitĂ©e de l'opĂ©ra baroque «Didon et ÉnĂ©e» d'Henry Purcell, mis en scĂšne par Franck Chartier du collectif Belge «Peeping Tom».

Une fusion musicale et narrative unique, ce spectacle mĂȘle l'histoire mythologique Ă  un rĂ©cit contemporain, avec la partition originale de Purcell, interprĂ©tĂ©e par le Concert d'AstrĂ©e sous la direction d'Emmanuelle HaĂŻm, et des compositions additionnelles d'Atsushi Sakai. CrĂ©Ă© en pleine pandĂ©mie du Covid en 2021, l'opĂ©ra n'avait, Ă  l’époque, pu ĂȘtre prĂ©sentĂ© qu'en streaming. Il est enfin prĂ©sentĂ© sur scĂšne au dĂ©but d’annĂ©e 2025.

Excellent comĂ©dien, il est toujours Ă  la juste place, aussi bien Ă  l’aise dans la nonchalance british assez drĂŽle qu’on lui donne Ă  jouer en premiĂšre partie que dans le personnage tragique qu’il devient par la suite. Soulignons Ă©galement l’investissement qu’il met dans le texte, qui contribue grandement Ă  l’expressivitĂ© de son chant dans sa derniĂšre intervention


🇬🇧 Jarrett Ott recently made his debut at the Grand ThĂ©Ăątre de GenĂšve in the role of Aneas and the Sailor in a reworked version of Purcell’s ‘Didon et ÉnĂ©e’, directed by Frank Chartier from the Belgian collective ‘Peeping Tom’.

A unique musical and narrative fusion of classical mythology and contemporary history, this revived edition combines Purcell’s original scores with new compositions by Atsushi Sakai, performed by Le Concert d'AstrĂ©e under the direction of Emmanuelle HaĂŻm. Conceived mid-pandemic, this work was originally only available to stream, finally being brought to the stage this year.

Praised by The Arts Desk for her ‘voluptuous and resinous’ tone, mezzo-soprano Fleur Barron shone in the role of Galatea in Handel’s ‘Aci, Galatea e Polifemo’, performed with La Nuova Musica () at Wigmore Hall last month. Her recent performances have spanned a particularly diverse range of repertoire across Europe. On the recital stage, she has appeared at the LIFE Festival in Barcelona and at the Hugo Wolf Akademie in Stuttgart, performing alongside her longtime collaborator, Julius Drake.

Fleur also performed Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde with the Staatsorchester Hamburg, directed by Kent Nagano, and took to the stage at the Barbican Centre, where BachTrack lauded her ‘incisive mezzo’ in the role of Comrade Chin in Huang Ro’s M. Butterfly with the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

Adding to this, Fleur, alongside Axelle Fanyo and Nicholas Phan, has received a Grammy nomination for her performance in the title role of Adriana Mater by Kaija Saariaho, recorded by Deutsche Grammophon.

Évidemment Marianne Crebassa est cette Femme universelle, qu'elle investit d'abord d'une voix dont la tessiture semble s'ĂȘtre Ă©largie en mĂȘme temps que le timbre s'est enrichi d'ombres et d'Ă©clairs bouleversants. On ne peut qu'admirer le parcours de cette interprĂšte qui, Ă  une carriĂšre toute tracĂ©e de festival en festival, a prĂ©fĂ©rĂ© des choix exigeants qui lui valent une reconnaissance unanime tant du public que de ses pairs.
