Majority of older adults live with two or more chronic conditions that in overall affect not only their longevity, but also quality of life and wellbeing.
Genetic causes (including single gene diseases as well as polygenic risk factors) have been established as contributing factors predisposing to many common chronic diseases including but not limited to cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, and depression.
Giving individuals an opportunity to learn about their genetic risk earlier in life and before first symptoms occur would help them and their healthcare providers to make more informed decisions about their health, personalized treatment, diet, and lifestyle to prevent or delay these conditions.
Perseverance of general health, cognition, psychosocial health, and mobility are critical for continuous happiness and wellbeing later in life.
