What is the best piece of advice you have received or lesson you have learned from a leader in your professional or personal life?

Sometimes we learn things from great leaders and sometimes we learn things from some not-so great leaders. All of our experiences shape us and mold us into the leaders we want to be.

The best piece of advice I have received is - “if not know, when?”, which is something I use throughout my career. Whether it is sending an email, starting a new project, or finding ways to work with others - if I do not take opportunities when they arise, they make not come back around.

Why did I become a funeral director? My response to this answer is simple - we had a successful funeral home in Fresh Meadows, NY and I was looking for my next professional challenge. I started as the bookkeeper but soon realized that if I was going to be in the “house that Sy (and Michael) built

Over the past weekend, my social media feeds saw an influx of photos, and of course, this led me to reflect on my own summers at . I attended Lake Bryn Mawr Camp in Honesdale, PA for ten summers (seven as a camper and three as a member), a beautiful place that I can honestly say, as cheesy as it sounds, helped shape me into the woman I am today. I was always the kid who was not allowed to go to "bring your daughter to work day", or shied away from telling people exactly what our was.

I am pleased to say that my views have matured, and I am proud to be part of the Resnick family and the of Sinai Chapels, as well as a fourth-generation funeral director and the first Resnick to obtain a degree in Mortuary Science and a license.

This may not have been my life plan when I was thirteen, or even twenty-three, but it is certainly where I am meant to be. I absolutely love doing what I do and have my family and previous careers with , , and of course, Meridith Egyes, to thank.

There are days when you may not love going into the office, need a break, or maybe you are just frustrated with a project. All of these feelings are normal and will happen, but it is important to never forget what motivates you, what you are passionate about, and ultimately, what makes you successful.

Ask yourself - What is your "WHY"? Why did you start your business? Why did you choose your career? Why did you change careers or shift within your industry?

And if it is time for a change - WHY not?
