Quanta Study

Quanta Study I'm a college student who makes planner pages on Etsy! My pages cover student planning, productivity, and meal planning. That's where Quanta Study comes in!

There are many beautiful planners here on Etsy, though how many of them are actually designed for students? They may be labeled "student planner" but, typically, these planners do not actually offer any additional functionality that helps student organization specifically. Not to mention, they're typically expensive! As a college student myself, I was frustrated seeing these resources that were no

t made with my needs in mind. So I decided to make a planner that would help students learn to organize themselves to succeed in school and at a price they can afford! I have a tumblr "studyblr" blog with over 40,000 students following, meaning I have a wide audience to draw experience from to continually improve the contents of the planner! I hope you enjoy my products and have a great school year!

How do you plan for the week? ☁️

This week I have an async midterm for my Research Methods class. I’m honestly not sure what to expect, so I hope it goes well! I only missed a single point on all my assignments so far but tests always feel more stressful, even if they’re open book! 📖

This particular class is slightly less interesting than my other one. So I’m a bit disappointed this class is so much more work haha! 😅

Good luck to everyone taking midterms! 🍀

I started my masters degree! 🎉

I’m studying Human Factors (an interdisciplinary concentration within psychology 🧠) which is essentially the umbrella term for all study of how humans interact as part of a system or product. 🤳🏻 So it includes both cognitive and physical considerations such as how users interact with an app (UX) or how people experience fatigue using a particular work tool (ergonomics). 💪🏻

While it definitely seems like a sharp turn away from my bachelors degrees (physics and chemistry), HF is a huge focus of my current work as a research engineer. ⚙️ Plus… my company is paying for it in full, so it’s a free degree! 💸 Only downside is that I have to complete it part-time while still working full-time. So it will be challenging! 😅

I did minor in psych in college. But there’s at least one class I might have to retake because it was so long ago… 💀 We’ll see haha

Are you taking classes this semester? 📚

I’ve genuinely been enjoying studying the kanji of basic vocabulary. I can generally recognize it in text but writing it is something else completely! For whatever reason, 教 is particularly fun for me haha. ☁️

First day of the 24 Days of Vocab challenge done! ✨

Today’s theme was pretty simple with greetings. I chose Japanese for this challenge as a way of getting back into writing characters. I’ve been in lots of immersion and shadowing the last few months so I haven’t really been “studying” which means I haven’t been writing either. This is just a chill way for me to do a little bit each day! 😎

I figured most of the words I’d encounter would be Hiragana but there were a few kanji sprinkled in, which was fun! ☁️

Happy December! ❄️

For the month of December, our Discord monthly challenge will be the 24 Days of Vocab! 🎄 Aimed at helping you start a new language (or get back into one that needs some love), it is a fun advent calendar style event where there will be a new prompt with vocab and phrases to learn every day!

The first prompt is already up and starts out pretty simple with greetings. Check out our Discord channel in my link in bio to join and get the other daily prompts! ✨

Happy June! 🌻

It’s finally starting to feel like summer (especially because I’m on a trip to San Jose this week! 😎) I’ve been going outside to take walks and explore more often which has definitely given me more energy and I’m loving it! 🌿

The start of the new month also calls for a new start and in my case, that has been the start of a new Discord server. 👾 You’ve probably heard about it on this page before, but it’s a language learning community specifically focused on helping everyone stay accountable and accomplish their goals together! You can learn more and join at the link in my bio. ✨

Today actually starts our first iteration of the on the server as a group! 🙌🏻 I’ve had this challenge available for awhile, but I think the fact that there wasn’t a dedicated place to host it kind of left people (myself included) feeling alone in the challenge and giving up. So now we have some channels specifically dedicated to this so everyone can join in the challenge together! 💖

If you don’t know about the challenge, it’s a language journaling challenge with 30 prompts for each language level (beginner, intermediate, advanced). 📝 That’s 90 unique prompts total for all levels! Each one is written to be appropriate for the level in terms of potential grammar structures and vocabulary, with a few challenges thrown in! I tried to write the prompts keeping different interests in mind, so there should be something for everyone! 🐣

I have a free workbook for each level if you prefer to hand write your responses, otherwise I will be posting the prompts each day in the server for those who want to follow along (and potentially share!). There’s more info on this in the server as well as the links in my bio.

I hope you guys will join the challenge with us! ✨ I’m really looking forward to it. (And I’ll be posting my prompt later today – I have a conference to attend lol!)

My new language laddering read: Atomic Habits ✨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
[qotd]: Are you (or have you considered) laddering languages? If so, which ones? 🪜
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's funny to me that this book is trending right now because I first listened to the audiobook in English🇺🇸 a couple years ago! So when I happened across the Albanian🇦🇱 version in a bookstore in Macedonia🇲🇰 and then the German🇩🇪 version while on a layover in Austria🇦🇹... I figured I needed to get the English🇺🇸 version to complete the set! 😂
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm roughly B1 in German🇩🇪 so I'm going to read that version first, using the English🇺🇸 version as a reference as needed. It'll probably be awhile before I get to the Albanian🇦🇱 version, but when I do, I'll be using the German🇩🇪 book for reference.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My laddering is like this: 🇺🇸 → 🇩🇪 → 🇦🇱
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Why bother laddering in the first place? Because when I first started learning Albanian🇦🇱 I would constantly think of German🇩🇪 or even Spanish🇲🇽 words instead (blast from my high school past lol). I thought it might be helpful to avoid that confusion. Plus, it forces me to learn German🇩🇪 to a higher level!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Language laddering is not always necessary, but it can be beneficial. A lot of people ladder languages such as Japanese🇯🇵 and Korean🇰🇷 because of the similar grammar structure. For me, I currently just see it as a challenge!

Manga vs. Picture Books ✨ (for language learning)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
[qotd]: What is your favorite type of reading material for immersion? 📚
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I started reading the Pokemon Sun and Moon manga in German🇩🇪 a few months ago, and I found myself getting a bit stuck sometimes. There’s so much going on and you’d think a lot of pictures would help, but there’s also a lot of dialogue. Sometimes it gets more confusing, especially because the Pokemon manga is COMPLETELY different than the mainline anime story.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, I thought I would try reading some kids picture books instead.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One thing I like about picture books as opposed to manga is that the main idea of the page is summarized in one picture. Just one. In manga sometimes I get lost trying to figure out everything. With picture books, it’s a lot slower pace and meant to be extra simple for kids. This particular book, especially, is basically just a summary of some of the anime episodes. So it made it A LOT easier to get through it all, even with words I didn’t recognize!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This format keeps me focused on what’s important.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m trying a similar thing this coming weekend for where I’ll be rewatching Demon Slayer in German🇩🇪 then trying to read some of the manga in Japanese🇯🇵. I’m much further along in German🇩🇪 than I am in Japanese🇯🇵 but it’ll be worth a shot!
