For a long time, I thought being strong meant not needing anyone.

I became very good at figuring things out quietly.
At carrying things alone.
At saying ā€œIā€™m fineā€ before anyone could ask twice.
At struggling in private so nobody would ever have to see me struggle.

From the outside, it probably looked like independence.

But underneath it was something else.

It was fear of being seen as incapable. Fear of being too much. Fear that if I admitted I didnā€™t know, couldnā€™t cope, or needed help, somehow I would become less worthy.

So I learned to hide the hard parts.

And that became exhausting.

Because there is a difference between being capable and feeling like you always have to prove that you are.
