Sometimes it feels so wild that I founded this amazing organization (along with my founding board members) and was its first president nurturing an idea into a viable farm and organization. It has surpassed my wildest expectations! And though more than 15 years has passed since I moved back to New York, leaving my fledgling but bra organization behind, I am still so proud and grateful to have had that privilege to have once been its leader!

I forgot and finally got a copy of the very awesome and very unique East Village Cookbook. I remember I contributed a bunch of recipes that I developed when I ran the Children’s Garden program at Campos Community Garden as NYC Foodscape that used truly locally grown East Village produce (which we also donated to Trinity Church’s food program). And indeed, the cookbook, created by Chef Will Horowitz, included them all. This book is so special—so much local flavor and lore using recipes as the language. Link to buy in comments.

About the Cookbook
During the pandemic, three East Village residents became friends while spending time with their pups at the Tompkins Square Park Dog Run. The friends, Will Kroeze, pastor at Trinity Lower East Side, Dan Hyatt, a middle school teacher, and Will Horowitz, a chef and author who co-founded Ducks Eatery and Harry & Ida’s Meat and Supply Co., bonded over a mutual interest at the intersection of food, spirituality, and community.

They have put the conversations into action, creating an old-school cookbook that will benefit Trinity Lower East Side Services and Food for the Homeless (SAFH) on Ninth Street and Avenue B.

I’m bringing the apps. Parmesan-Stuffed dates wrapped in bacon, stuffed mushrooms, and asparagus and prosciutto wrapped in phyllo. OMG. I have forgotten how annoying it is to work with phyllo!! But hopefully, worth the effort I didn’t calculate into today.
