I saw something this afternoon that really disturbed me 😡. The cops pulled over a car driven by a Latino man, and in the back seat was his wife and toddler son. I saw one of the cops looking and tugging on the license plate on the back of the car. The other went to the driver got his license and registration, and I guess insurance card. The 2 cops made phone calls and next thing you know they put handcuffs on the man. Three more squad cars showed up. They body searched the man, then put him in the back of one of the squad cars, then searched his car.
What DISTURBED me the most is they told the wife to get out of the car, with the toddler. They took all of bags out of the trunk and the baby car seat, and drove the man's car away leaving the woman, her baby, and her 4 big laundry sized bags on the street corner- STRANDED!!
I was fuming!!!
I went downstairs to the lady ready to use my translation app. There were 2 men already outside who were speaking Spanish and looking at the poor woman and baby. I asked them if they speak English and they said a little bit. 🤨 I said I want to help the lady, she's stranded and I'll pay for an Uber to take her home. I walked across the street to the lady. She was on the phone talking to someone and crying 😢. That's when the 2 men came over to assist. I asked her if she has somewhere to go or family here? I would pay for the UBER to take her home. She was speak with her family and they were on the way to get her. She and the toddler didn't have a coat on only a hoodie, so I brought one of my coats and covered the toddler. I waited with her until her family arrived. I showed them the 14 minutes video of the whole incident, and sent it to them.
My point is not to get accolades, but to share that we must help each other, we cannot be bystanders. The women was terrified, being stranded on the streets by the COPS whose job it is to protect and serve!
It broke 💔 my heart seeing the woman and her baby left on the street, no communication with her about what they've done with her husband and why they took the car and left her stranded on the streets. She said none of the cops spoke Spanish and didn't care about her knowing what's going on at all. 😠
