"Trump’s presidency began in 2017 and the years proceeding it were something of a whirlwind—to be polite. Rally after rally, soon the world would realise how great an impact this ex-business man was to have on his followers, followers who’d attend in great numbers and reel support of the new president’s dangerous ideologies. On the afternoon of December 8 that year, photographer William Mebane drove from Fair Hope, Alabama to document a Trump rally in Pensacola, Florida. “Earlier that week, I’d been on assignment to photograph a political rally for Roy Moore,” he tells It’s Nice That, noting how he was running in a special election against the Democrat Doug Jones, to fill the Senate seat that was vacated by then-US Attorney General Jeff Sessions. “I was not on assignment when I went to the rally. I decided to go because I wanted to see it for myself, and to photograph what happened at these gatherings; to hear what the president had to say, and to see who showed up to support him...” —Ayla Angelos

[Editor’s note: Twenty-one years ago to the month, Print hosted a spirited debate in its New York offices between two of design’s biggest names, Joe Duffy and Tibor Kalman. The pair’s sit down has become legendary in the industry and many people still talk about it to this day. We thought it would b...

Massimo Vignelli wrote of Lella Vignelli, who died December 21st:
"For decades, the collaborative role of women as architects or designers working with their husbands or partners has been under appreciated.…Lella and I were affected by these standing mores early in our careers. It is why we purposely built the notion of the two of us as a brand, but it took time for the others to see and understand this. The architectural and design press had a bad habit of crediting only the man, forgetting the woman partner. For many years, our Vignelli office sent photographs of projects—with proper credits—to the magazines, but too often we would see the published material crediting my name only. This created a constant scene of embarrassment and frustration, to the point that I threw publications away to avoid unpleasant confrontations with Lella."

Lella Vignelli passed away on Dec. 21.
