Francis Njuakom shared with staff from Isabella Geriatric Center about growing up in a slum and witnessing the plight of widows and elders in his local village in the Cameroon. This experience led him to focus on uncovering the hidden potential beneath the face of poverty. Francis’ vision of engaging elders into one voice that speaks on behalf of women and the poor has improved the Cameroon society over the last twenty years. He founded an organization called Community Development Volunteers for Technical Assistance in the Republic of the Cameroon to provide support for older people, promote advocacy, elderly friendly communities, positive ageing, social inclusion and welfare. "We wanted to transform sympathy to empathy for our elders," he said. Click below to view photos from the presentation.

Check out photos from our Building and Sustaining Effective Teams training below. Both labor and management staff from Maimonides Medical Center’s Ambulatory Care Department gathered together to learn how to establish an effective team structure and the importance of team work in the workplace. Through interactive exercises, the staff discovered how to use effective ways to build their team. During the Baggage exercise (shown in the photos), the team learned how everyone has personal baggage that can be carried into the workplace and the importance of having empathy for their co-workers. Through this training, the Maimonides staff learned the keys to successfully building a dream team.
