Christopher often says that I'm a puppy who needs to be walked.

He's right.

And no, I'm not into pup play.

Whether it's from an ADHD brain (I prefer to say genius brain 😉) or an anxious one, I always forget the value of a good old fashioned "intention walk."

I get all the downloads, all the words I need, (and the steps my body needs) in one fell swoop. Particularly here Frederic Church’s Olana where there is so much landscape change.

Shhh, don't tell anyone else but sometimes, on days when no one else is here, I pretend I'm Oprah doing a perimeter check of my 100 acre estate.

Seeing winding trails opening up to expansive views and finding little treasures along the way are the best way for me to do my thinking, writing and get ready for the day.

So much so, I've begun doing a (near) daily capture of insights on voice, speech and leadership and am putting those out via email to those who want to be in the know.

I so want you all to know the truth so that you can feel better.

One time, I was driving on the 241 in Southern California when I heard a voice in my head... (more on that another time.)

The voice said,

"Call her and tell her to look in the drawer next to the bed."

I was reluctant to make that call. I was reluctant to call someone experiencing deep grief over not being able to really connect with a person they loved so dearly before they passed.

She never got the final kiss,
the final glance,
the final "I love you."

I was afraid to add to the hurt.

Yet, despite my nerves, I made the call.

She said, "The thing is Tom, there is no bedside table."

A month later, she called me to say,

"You know, there WAS a bedside table. I moved it. Once he got so sick we had to move the bed downstairs. I moved the bedside table too and forgot about it. I found it on the porch. When I opened the drawer it was empty. But then... something that had been stuck to the top...dropped down into the drawer."

It was a card. A birthday card he had been working on for her.

In handwriting that had been difficult to write due to his condition was written a simple phrase underlined three times.

The card said, "I love you."

We never talked about it again but that's the point.

She could move on.

Sometimes people can't move on.

How can you when someone you love so dearly is seemingly gone forever? It can all feel so unbearable.

Hopefully this can help you know that your loved ones have never and will never move on from you.

The truth is, they are always right there; dropping, in so many ways, little love notes, just for you.
