Local Projects Local Projects is an experience design and strategy firm with a passion for testing the limits of human interaction.

Driven to keep both meaning and innovation at the forefront of our work, we build opportunities across a range of platforms that inspire people to participate, share and explore. Since our inception, we have been creating media pieces and installations for museums, brands, and cultural institutions. Today, innovation drives much of our design, but we also strive to create projects that endure. Wit

h our work, we are reinventing visitor experiences and traditional approaches through media, while offering meaningful connections.

We’re back at the , taking a look at our outdoor media installation, The Do Good Rings.

As visitors move through the ringed portal, their presence triggers audio clips of Do Good community members describing the journey to their big ideas for doing good on campus, prompting visitors to reflect on how they, too, might make an impact.

The human voice is a tremendous conduit for emotion, so we wanted visitors to hear these stories from the students themselves, in their own words.

Time was limited, as Christine Hernandez, Senior Media Producer, recalls. “These impactful, interesting stories reveal just how passionate Do Good alumni are about the work they do. Our challenge was to pare down the stories we captured into digestible 5-10 second sound bites.”

In addition to students’ words, we added ambient, meditative music and nature sounds to create a sense of peace and awe. The plaza is now the first stop on all campus tours and attracts over 20,000 visitors per year.

This week, we’re taking you behind the scenes of our work with the Do Good Institute .

The Institute is an incredible organization that gives University of Maryland students the experience and funding to maximize the impact of their non-profit business ideas.

When the growing Institute moved their offices into the stunning new Thurgood Marshall Hall, they challenged us to create an experience that would spread awareness of students’ great work to campus students, staff, and visitors.

Swipe through the carousel to see how the concept evolved:

1- Here’s our final design for The Rings, a striking outdoor audio-visual sculpture that responds to visitors’ presence with dynamic light and sound.

2 - “I remember standing on the roof in a hard hat and thinking, we need to create a Do Good Plaza that will be active 24/7, and encourage people to come inside the building to learn more,” says Creative Director Nathan Adkisson.

3 - The initial idea for a “Do Good Forest” featured a pathway lit by interactive “trees of wisdom”. Touching a trunk activated audio of students sharing their Do Good projects. Students’ stories and voices remained at the core of the final experience design.

4 - We considered a ‘Red Brick Road” to guide people from the trees into Thurgood Marshall Hall. In the end, we wanted to unify the pathway and the media experience into a single move.

Stay tuned to see how we evolved the portal into our final design, featuring interactive, immersive audio.

When we design customer engagement centers, we don’t just focus on the customer experience—we think about how to make them places where your company’s leaders, experts, and sales teams genuinely want to show up. After all, for your customer engagement program to thrive, you need the right people to step away from their desks to engage your customers.

We’re heading to Austin to share how you can inspire your team to actively participate in your Customer Engagement Program—and, of course, to enjoy some legendary Texas BBQ with our friends at the Global Association of Customer Engagement Professionals ()

Dian Fossey inspired generations of conservationists with a life devoted to the study and protection of the endangered mountain gorillas in Rwanda.

When our friends and partners at invited us to contribute to the design of the sprawling Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund () in their home country of Rwanda, we jumped at the opportunity.

After the AIA honored the project with a COTE Top Ten award this summer, we revisited the concepts we helped MASS Design develop to shape the Cindy Broder Conservation Gallery, an immersive educational exhibit located at the campus entrance.

Experiences include a virtual welcome from Ellen DeGeneres herself, introductions to mountain gorillas to help visitors form 1-1 relationships as Dian did, a replica of Dian’s original cabinet at the Karisoke Research Center to transport visitors to the moments of discovery she experienced, and a look behind the curtain of Fossey Fund’s deep scientific research.

Congratulations to the Fossey Fund, Ellen Fund, MASS, , and the whole project team. Pay a visit to the Ellen Campus on your next visit to Rwanda!

After two decades of pushing boundaries, we were ready to party.

In November, we celebrated our 20-year anniversary and two decades’ worth of memories with clients, friends, and partners.

The celebration included a special toast from our creative leaders, interactive prototypes, and our client Dassai’s best sake to top it all off.

Thank you to our extended community for being part of the journey, and here’s to another 20 years.

, the grandmother of Juneteenth, celebrated her 98th birthday on Thursday, and we were happy to unveil her gift: new renderings of the exhibits for the National Juneteenth Museum ()!

Scheduled to open in 2026, the 50,000-square-foot museum located in Fort Worth’s Historic Southside neighborhood will celebrate the legacy of Juneteenth, the holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States.

“We specifically selected Local Projects for their unparalleled expertise in creating immersive and impactful exhibits. Their record of excellence aligns perfectly with our vision to honor Juneteenth in a way that educates and inspires,” said Jarred Howard, CEO of the Museum.

We hope the Museum fosters a powerful connection between visitors and the story and impact of Juneteenth, and we can’t wait to share more.
