I had the privilege and pleasure of participating in an important plenary workshop yesterday at the 41st Annual Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime at Jesus College Cambridge.

Our session was titled ‘David & Goliath Unbound: A new paradigm for holding banks accountable to victims for enabling fraud’ and was chaired by my friend and colleague Kenney of MKS: Martin Kenney & Co, along with exceptional co-panelists Michele Caratsch of Baldi & Caratsch, Matthew Bradley KC of 4 New Square Chambers, and Paul Austin, LLM of HIGHGATE.

With appreciation to Nick Ryan and Tony McClements MSc, AFHEA.

My thanks to colleagues and co-panelists Martin Kenney of Martin Kenney & Co, Rodrigo Callejas of Carrillo & Asociados, and David F. Johnson of Winstead PC - Attorneys for such a successful session — "The Baby-Boomer Generation & The Largest Succession of Wealth in History: The New Frontier in Asset Recovery"

We offered a rich and timely discussion on the challenges facing the victims of fraud, elder abuse, dishonest breaches of trust, forced heirship, and undue influence involving a family member against siblings or children, and other contentious disputes in high-net worth families and high-value family enterprises, with particular focus on addressing these situations in the BVI, Guatemala, and Texas.

Bernard Madoff, architect of the largest Ponzi scheme in history, died today, 14 April 2021, at the age of 82. His fraud was far more than a masterfully executed economic crime. We must never lose sight of the devastating human toll wrought by his actions.
