PSA if you’re new to the art world or didn’t know you needed to hear this.

Don’t touch the art!

It’s ok if this was not obvious to you, now you know.

You’re welcome!

Stop. Slow down. Look.

Vija Celmins’s prints — ocean surfaces, desert floors, night skies — are subjects too vast to grasp, built from thousands of meticulous marks. By the time you’re close enough to read the work, you’re already inside it.

Consider it permission to breathe.

Vija Celmins at Matthew Marks — through June 27.

Matthew Marks Gallery, 526 West 22nd Street.

I get asked this all the time.

It’s pronounced BAH-zel. Art Basel. Not Basil. Like the herb. No one was going to correct you because they’re too polite. You’re welcome!

Art Basel in Basel opens in less than two weeks. Stay tuned for more on that!

Breathtaking.

Firelei Báez - new paintings, bronze sculptures and works on paper.

Free. Open to the public. Through July 31st. Go.

“Every painting is over a document that purports to contain the world or reality, all in one two-dimensional image…[Her work is trying to bring forth] the idea of the actual complexity of being, of navigating, of knowing more, and the possibility of knowing more.”

- Firelei Baez in “The Art of Firelei Báez, Our Histories Are Ready for a Review” by

I was blown away by this exhibition.

Even after decades of work, Lisa Yuskavage is pushing into new territory.

533 West 19th Street. Through June 26th. Don’t miss.

Short week. Happy Friday!

Can’t spend $35 million on a Richter? Neither can I. Go see this show instead.

Gerhard Richter is one of the most important living artists in the world and one of the most sought after - and for good reason.

Last week a painting from the estate of Marian Goodman sold at Christie’s for $35 million. She bought it directly from the artist in 1989 and held it for nearly forty years.

Gerhard Richter: Landschaften at David Zwirner, Chelsea. Photorealist landscapes alongside his Abstract Paintings.

Free. Open to the public. Through July 10th. Go.

Museum visits don’t have to be art history lessons.

A great hack is to go see just one thing. But sometimes you don’t have a plan - just go. It’s better than not going at all.

It was rainy, crowded, no agenda. I let him lead — he stopped where he wanted, looked at what caught his eye, moved on when he was ready.

In and out before they’re bored. Leave while it still feels good.

No lesson. Not a big production. Just a kid looking at art, getting comfortable in the space.

That counts, too.

My go-to for a rainy museum day with kids — quick, easy, and put together.

CC cream, slick back hair, good earrings, something comfortable I don’t have to think about. Out the door fast.
